The Body Drawings use physicality and conscious action as
tools for mark making. Graphite and spray paint on paper are the mediums. A
rigorous sequence of movements executed on the paper creates action where the
residue is captured. A composition of action is the result.
I begin by
standing on the paper and in the graphite. I move according to a prescribed method. Steps, hops, and balances create marks
on the paper. Spray paint designates points along the path. For example I might
paint a circle everywhere sweat drops during the work. The result is a drawing that captures the movements and makes a portrait of the movements free from
hand or ideas relating to the actions. The drawing is pure revealing
imperfection in the action and thereby making space to get closer to the truth
of art making.
